Orthopedic Surgery

Introduction:-

Orthopedics originates from two Greek words : Ortho means “straight” and pedics means “children”. For a very long time orthopedics was involved in the treatment of crippled children but over the years this practice was adopted for adults. Today orthopedics deals with the problem of all ages.

This is the medical science that focuses on injuries of the musculoskeletal systems. This system includes bones, ligaments, tendons, muscles and nerves. These are systems which enables us to walk, move or to be active.

In most of the orthopedic surgery, foreign materials like screws, wires, pins or tongs are involved.  These are used to hold the damaged bone in the proper alignment.

What does an orthopedic surgeon does?

Orthopedic surgery attempts to correct the problem in the skeleton and its attachments and the ligaments, the tendons. Orthopedic surgeons treat patients of all ages with deformities. They treat newborn babies, young people and old people.

They ensure that diagnostics of the patients are done accurately.

Some of the common surgeries that are carried out in orthopedic surgeries are-

  • Anthroplasty
  • Anthroscopy
  • Repairing of fractured bone
  • Repairing damaged muscles or torn tendons.
  • Bone grafting

There are many more surgical operations that come under orthopedics.

The Whole process.
